If you don’t have a pitch refined, you may be missing out on lucrative business opportunities. Becoming a Pitching Pro is more than pitching to brands, it’s understanding your business as a food blogger on an entirely new level.
Today I’m talking to Casey Benedect. Casey is the president of Kitchen-Play and I know many of you have heard of her or worked with her before. She was on the show before so be sure to go back to episode #80 (see link below) to hear Casey talking about successful business strategies for food bloggers.
I’ve worked with Casey personally. She’s been my business coach and I’ve been a part of her coaching groups at Kitchen-Play. I’m currently a part of her mastermind group. I’ve found her advice to be inspiring, purposeful, and insightful.
That’s why I was excited to talk with you about Pitching. It may not sound like an exciting word, but Pitching is the bread and butter for a lot of food blogs. And there is SO much involved with pitching. And when I say that, I’m talking about the steps you actually have to take — you need to know your pricing and what you’re offering. You need to know your audience and so many things, all the way down to what you’ll say in the actual pitch.
But there’s more to it than that. Because pitching is about you and how you feel about your business.
I mention to Casey in today’s discussion that sometimes I don’t take myself seriously enough. I have to coach myself into my work. Sometimes that means I keep detailed lists in my planner and I follow those to a tee. It’s all too easy to get distracted and go burrowing in metaphorical rabbit holes, researching the best way to post something on IG or something like that.
I mean, sometimes you really want to know the best way to post things on IG so that’s worthshile, but you know when you’re taking that searching a little to seriously. Right? You spend too much time looking and not enough time doing. That’s where my detailed list has saved me time and time again. And I love putting that little check mark next to “send so and so an email” or “create recipe for chocolate cake.” I mean, shouldn’t every day be creating a chocolate cake!
Becoming a Pitching Pro
Pitching is a sign you respect yourself and what’re doing. And I believe pitching is more than reaching out to brands. When your neighbor asks what you do, how do you answer that question? Do you hem haw around and say it kind of apologetically? Or do you put it out there with confidence. I am a food blogger. Yeah!
